DevilDriver Dez records charity song for sister

DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara has recorded a track in order to raise funds for his sister’s breast cancer battle.

He’s collaborated with studio colleagues Greg Weiss and Logan Mader to prepare the song Dark Meadowland, which he describes as “badass.”

Fafara’s sister Kerri is facing years of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which will cost much more than her health insurance will pay.

She says: “We have two daughters still at home, we’ve relocated to be close to the treatment centre. But the cost of two years of what’s called ‘out of pocket maximum costs’ are definitely a burden.”

Fafara has asked fans to consider making a donation to Kerri’s treatment fund.

Meanwhile, former Great White frontman Jack Russell is fronting an outfit called Lordz of Rock to raise funds for a foundation fighting breast cancer.

The band, who will appear on the Rock’n For a Cure event in Ontario, California on October 18, also includes bassist Phil Soussan (Ozzy Osbourne, Dio), keyboardist Teddy ‘Zig Zag’ Andreadise (Guns n’Roses), drummer Myron Grombacher (Pat Benatar) and guitarist Robert Sarzo (Hurricane).

They’ll be joined at the show by LA Guns, Warrant, Dokken, Skid Row and Kix.

A spokesman for the We Are Communities foundation says: “This benefit concert is specifically designed to raise funds for breast cancer research. While breast cancer is an extremely serious, life-threatening disease, the goal is to take one night to come together and have some fun while raising money for a great cause.”

Teenage Cancer Trust activist Roger Daltrey is auctioning a shirt he wore on the Who’s 1976 US tour, with all proceeds from the sale going to the trust. With four days to go the price has topped £1650.
