The Union were forced to abandon their concert in London last night after just two songs because singer Pete Shoulder was suffering from flu.
They’ve postponed the final three shows of their UK tour as a result.
The band, formed in 2009 by Shoulder and Thunder guitarist Luke Morley, are midway through promoting latest album The World Is Yours.
Their set at London’s O2 Academy Islington had only just begun, with the band having delivered Step Up To The Plate and You’re My Jesus. Soon after starting third track Tangled Up In You they called a halt in front of a roomful of disappointed fans.
Last night The Union said via their Facebook page: “Thank you so much for your messages re tonight’s show being curtailed. Pete was very upset at having to stop after two and a half songs – but as Luke said, ‘It’s not a Union gig without Pete’s vocals.’
“We will see how the land lies on Friday morning and let everybody know what’s happening regarding the remaining shows as soon as possible. We are already investigating a rescheduled London date and hope to be able to agree on a new date tomorrow. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.”
Today the band added: “Taking into account medical advice and the fact that we have no wish to put on a Union show that is sub-standard in any way, we have taken the difficult decision to reschedule the shows. We will announce the new dates as soon as possible.
“We are extremely disappointed as the tour was proving to be our most successful to date, but under the circumstances we feel we have no choice. Peter and the band would like to thank everybody for the all the messages of support received and we promise to make the re-scheduled dates as special as possible.
“We will let you know any further information as soon as possible.”
