Singer Tyler says: “To be recognised by ASCAP with the Founders Awards is a huge achievement. It’s humbling for Joe and me to be honoured for our music alongside the likes of Stevie Wonder. Any society that lets Tom Waits in, I’m there.”

Guitarist Perry adds: “We join an incredible list of honourees and we’re grateful to ASCAP for their support throughout our career.”

Society spokesman Paul Williams comments: “As part of one of our nation’s greatest and most iconic rock bands, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry crafted the music that defined a generation and continues to inspire songwriters today. They are true musical pioneers whose contributions to American songwriting are immeasurable.”

And Tyler suggests that, after the release of 2012 album Music From Another Dimension, Aerosmith’s songwriting days aren’t over. “It’s been a life-long love affair – and it’s far from over,” he says.
