Eldorado – Railway Venue Bolton, 29th March 2013

Working Saturday almost spelled a cba evening Friday but I dragged my knackered arse to The Railway Venue Bolton to see Eldorado anyway and, quite unexpectedly, I was absolutely blown away. (yeah, yeah, here he goes again….)

From start t0 finish the guys from Spain delivered a stunner of a set that needed no covers but included a mesmerising rendition of Airplane’s ‘Somebody To Love’ that was more Wolfmother than Airplane and ‘I Don’t… Need No Doctor’ which, although heavy and raucous, owed so much to Ray Charles version that I forgot WASP had ever even covered it.

Clapped until my hands hurt I did.

Shouted for more I did.

So smitten was I that I bounded up to their merch table like a spotty teenager with a huge glitter AC/DC patch on my brand new Wrangler and threw all I had in my pocket their way.

Eldorado are a straight up heavy blues rock band with no hype or gimmicks who could so easily hide behind frontman Jesus Trujillo’s incredible voice but who form a perfect powerhouse delivering music that is so ‘now’ it’s breathtaking. You could be forgiven for thinking these guys are just out to ride the wave of new found love for retro rock but they’ve been at it too long to be faking it. Delivering classic rock in a new package is a tough road but these guys have got it all.

They are the modern day Free.

Played my two new, eagerly purchased, discs non stop since and I have fallen in love.
