Tom Waits to play first show in 5 years

tomWaitsTom Waits will deliver his first live show in five years when he appears at the 2013 edition of Neil Young’s Bridge School benefit show.

The veteran says he’s “invited himself” to the event – but insists he has no plans for further shows after he ended his touring career in 2008.

Young staged the first benefit concert in 1986, and with the exception of 1987 it’s taken place every year in Mountain View, California, raising funds for the Bridge School, which offers support for children with severe physical impairments.

This year’s lineup for the show on October 27 includes Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Queens Of The Stone Age, Heart, Elvis Costello and others.

Waits has confirmed he’ll perform an acoustic set featuring songs from 2011 album Bad As Me, accompanied by guitarist David Gidalgo, Primus mainman and bassist Les Claypool, drummer Casey Waits and others.

“I had every good intention to stay at home and work on my JD Salinger Halloween mask,” Waits says. “But when Neil told me he was serving burnt cow’s eyes on a flat tyre, and it’s all gluten-free, I invited myself!”
