Lost Prophets Members Still Making Music

1Lostprophets-Minus-IanThe instrumental members of As I Lay Dying aren’t the only ones out there looking to continue after losing their frontman to a big brush with the law. Lostprophets are reportedly figuring out their future after the sentencing of frontman Ian Watkins on multiple sex crime charges.

Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly recently spoke with Radio Cardiff (excerpted by ThePRP) and addressed rumors of his involvement with the Lostprophets members new project.

“I’ve been talking to the remaining members of that band, because they’re really good guys,” said Rickly. “I really want to be a part of what they do. I want to be a part of their second chance, because, like, people don’t really think of what happens to the other members, but that. That took away their life.”

He added, “You know, what happened is just devastating for them. I mean really, here in Wales, so many people have personal interaction with those guys and know that people like Stu and Mike and Lee — like they are such good people.”

While Rickly did not confirm whether or not he would be singing with the band, he did state that he would be helping them as part of his record label venture. “Yeah, I’ve heard that rumor too [about my involvement], but it’s been my honor to work with them on their new band from a label perspective,” said Rickly. “And it’s just so good man, people are not going to know what hit them when the new band comes out. It’s like everything I grew up on — like a little bit of New Order, little bit of Joy Division, little bit of The Cure, it’s just so forward thinking. And it’s also like … all the roots are everything I’ve ever loved from goth music. It’s just really cool man. I think if ever there was a group of people that needed a second chance, it’s those guys and they’re going to take full advantage of it. I’m really proud of them.”

As for Watkins, Rickly says his friendship has primarily been with the band’s other members. He added, “I never knew the main guy. He was always a bit of a rock star to me, so I just kinda stayed clear. But the other guys were like, ya know, share a beer with ya, just talk about music, talk about life, talk about your family.”

Watkins was sentenced to 29 years in prison and an additional 6 years probation for various sex crimes, including some involving minors and infants. Just prior to his sentencing, Lostprophets announced that the band was dissolving.
