Olympics Bosses Wanted Keith Moon At Opening Ceremony

In what must go down as a major faux pas, it’s been reported that organisers of the 2012 Olympics tried to book late Who drummer Keith Moon to appear at the opening ceremony.

Talking to the Sunday Times, The Who’s manager Bill Curbishley confirmed: “I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green Crematorium, having lived up to The Who’s anthemic line, ‘I hope I die before I get old’ [from My Generation].

“If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him.”

Moon, of course, died in 1978 at the age of 32. Which means, had they thought of it, those behind the 1948 London Olympics could have gotten him to appear – just before his second birthday!
