Saxon announce UK tour

Saxon have announced the first dates of their 2013 UK and Ireland tour, kicking off on April 19.

The NOWBHM heroes have revealed nine shows, with the hint of more to come.

The tour will tie in with the release of next studio album, Sacrifice, the follow-up to 2011′s Call To Arms.

Frontman Biff Byford knows that, after notching up what will be their 20th record, Saxon can’t go on for ever. He says: “People have been asking me if this is going to be our last album and tour. We don’t know yet – we’ll see how it goes.”

The band’s movie Heavy Metal Thunder will be released internationally on December 7. The original DVD was fan-funded and came out in 2010, and has long since sold out. They’ve also been confirmed as headliners on the Rock Stage at next year’s SwedenRock festival.

Meanwhile, Byford will take part in a discussion about the work of fantasy artist Paul Raymond Gregory tomorrow night (November 1), to mark the launch of his book.

Gregory is behind over 30 album covers including Saxon, Uriah Heep and Dio, and provides visuals for the Bloodstock Open Air metal festival.

Byford is joined by journalist Greg Mofitt, artist Mark Wilkinson, collector Peter Nahum and former Tolkien Society chairman Alex Lewis.

Gregory’s book, Beyond Time And Place, is launched at the event in the British Music Experience inside the O2 in London. Find out more.
