Time for Velvet Revolver reunion says Weiland

Scott Weiland believes the time is right for a reunion with Velvet Revolver.

The Stone Temple Pilots singer, who returned to that band after being sacked by the Guns n’Roses offshoot in 2008, wants to grab movie soundtrack opportunities he says they’ve been offered.

Velvet Revolver have been on hiatus since Weiland’s departure, with several attempts to replace him having failed to work out. Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor last year revealed he’d recorded nearly an album of material – but guitarist Slash wasn’t happy with it.

Weiland tells Rolling Stone: “I am completely open to it, and I know there are other guys in the band that are completely open to it.

“There have been some things that have stood in the way that aren’t anything to do with the band – other players, whether it be agents… But now we’re sorting through things.

“We want to start writing for some big film opportunities that have come our way, and try to set things up the way we set things up when we initially got together. I think it’s the perfect time.”

Weiland joined VR for a charity concert in January, with guitarist Dave Kushner suggesting it might open the door to a reunion.

But in May the singer announced he’d rejoined the band and was preparing for songwriting sessions with them, leading Slash to respond: “He’s out of his mind.”
