Admittedly, when I heard “Saturday Night” by Drowning Pool on YouTube I took one look at new vocalist Jasen Moreno and thought “Who the hell is this guy?” And up until last week I continued to think that way.
Until I saw him perform live.
This guy is the real deal. he’s the perfect fit for Drowning Pool. While my best friend was off falling in love with him, I observed from a distance and watched how the crowd responded to him. It was like Dave never left us. Not only is he an amazing live performer but he sings the old school Drowning Pool songs to perfection. Not only that but after meeting and talking to him for a while I learned that he’s a genuinely nice and humble guy, too
After the gig I decided to check out their new album “Resilience” and boy, did it blow me away. Straight from the get-go with “Anytime, Anyplace” and “Die for Nothing”, straight into DP’s latest hard-hitting single “One Finger and a Fist” (I’ll let you interpret that title how you want) all the way into songs like “Bleed With You” and, quite possibly my favourite song on the album, “In Memory Of…”-the first single from the album, which is a near four-minute tear-jerker of a tribute to Drowning Pool’s fallen comrade Dave Williams, released on the eve of his tragic passing.
This whole album definitely turned a lot of heads and took a lot of people by surprise. It stays true to the signature Drowning Pool sound with it’s heavy, energetic tracks that make you want to start a riot while at the same time taking on a whole different approach. Whatever is it, I love it and I can’t wait to hear more. I definitely recommend buying this album and going out to one of their live shows. Don’t let the bad press put you off; this is still Drowning Pool and it still melts faces and kicks asses.
