Lostprophets’ Ian Watkins Placed on Suicide Watch, Asks For Move to Psychiatric Hospital

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has reportedly been placed on suicide watch while being held at Parc Prison in Wales. Watkins has been charged with a number of horrific crimes, including charges of sexually assaulting an infant. The singer is now attempting to be relocated from Parc Prison to a psychiatric hospital.

On Dec. 19, 2012, news broke that Watkins was arrested in the U.K. on charges of sexually touching young children, possession and distribution of indecent images of children, possession of ‘extreme animal pornography’ and conspiracy to rape a one-year-old child. Shortly after, it was revealed that Watkins was charged with a total of 24 crimes, two of which include counts of sexually assaulting a separate infant only a few months apart in age from the aforementioned one-year-old.

According to The Independent, Watkins appeared before Cardiff Crown Court this morning (Aug. 13) via video-link. The singer’s defense barrister, Sally O’Neill, attempted to get Watkins on medication along with a move into a psychiatric hospital. “He has been seen by a clinical psychologist and she believes he should be receiving anti-psychotic medication,” claims O’Neill. “She wants him to be taken to a secure hospital for assessment and treatment … He is on suicide watch five times an hour.”

Watkins reportedly had two female co-conspirators, aged 20 and 24, who also appeared in court today. The 24-year-old continues to deny all charges brought against her, while the 20-year-old has admitted to sexually touching a child, taking photos of the incident and distributing the images. Judge Eleri Rees adjourned the hearing until Oct. 14, which means the three individuals will remain in custody.
