Lover Under Cover – “Into the Night”

Lover Under Cover are back with a brand new album, hailing from Sweden this quartet combine elements of Coldspell, Last Autumns Dream, Treat and many more great Scandinavian Rock bands. The band was formed by Mikael Carlsson and with this record they continue the development of their particular brand of melodic, hard rock started on their 2012 first album.

Soaring harmonies, slick guitar solos and plenty of keyboards feature in their sound and with a knack of producing infectious melodies they will have you begging for more. With a tight production from Martin Kronlund you can be sure of a very polished performance all round. Songs like “Into the Shadows”, “Miracle” and “Crushing Stones” are all fantastic slabs of melodic hard rock, in fact there are no fillers to be found, just well-structured melodic hard rock.

To be completely frank, with a pedigree involving ColdSpell (did I mention how much I love that band? Oh, er … yeah I may have once or twice) and Last Autumns Dream I’d have been shocked if this record was anything less than a brilliant set of material. Sure, the harmonies and keyboards are laced throughout all of the tracks, but more impressively this is not simply a re-hash of those cliche ridden 80s wannabe, AOR bands – what is present is a set of songs for now. With a positive vibe and energy that only comes from great songwriting Lover Under Cover are a band to look out for in 2014 and if well-crafted melodic rock of the highest order is what you crave for then this is an essential purchase and with a set of songs that bear repeated listening.
