STEEL PULSE Headline Simmer Down Festival Handsworth

Yes, our brethrens and sistrens,

The Prodigal Sons are returning back to you from our experiences of the world.  And although we have been absent for quite some time, you have always been part of our journey, livity and longevity.  We are looking forward to be blessed by you all once again.
Peace….”
David Hinds, Steel Pulse
On July 20th Steel Pulse play their first UK show in nearly 3 years when they headline Simmer Down,  Birmingham’s biggest international reggae festival. The Simmer Down Festival also features Apache Indian backed by Reggae Revolution and Musical Youth with the full line up to be announced.
Simmer Down, now in its fifth year is a totally free family fun-day festival celebrating Birmingham’s rich cultural diversity and musical heritage in the beautiful surroundings of Handsworth Park.
Formed in 1975 at Handsworth Boys School, Steel Pulse are one of the most recognisable reggae acts of all time. Producing fresh, cross-cultural tunes that linked experiences of urban youth to a greater collective knowledge and tradition, their music was embraced by everyone from Rastafarians to Punks. The 1978 album Handsworth Revolution is considered a major landmark in the evolution of British reggae. Their 1987 Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album remains the only time the award has been won by a non-Jamaican artist.and they continue to tour and perform with the same fiery spirit, producing feel good music with striking political messages. Steel Pulse stand by their beliefs and have been active in a variety of charitable works throughout the years including generating funds for the hurricane victims of Jamaica and New Orleans as well as their most recent project; funding the building and installation of solar panels for a hospital and clinic in earthquake stricken Haiti.
This is a real homecoming for Steel Pulse
