Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins says it’s important for the current rising generation of musicians to ignore labels and management who insist they should focus on a single track in order to cement their career. “You’ve got to say to a young kid, ‘You can’t be about that one song,” he states.
“If all you’re about is the one song you’re basically putting a shelf-life on yourself – and you’re done. Don’t buy this argument where it’s like, ‘Well, let’s just get you on the radio then you’ll build a career after that.’ That’s very rare.” And he warns music fans: “If they don’t support artists in total it’s actually a vote for the other side.”
