Muse are set to run their home town for a day.
The band have been invited to take charge of proceedings at Teignbridge District Council, and leader Jemery Christophers says their response was “extremely positive.”
He tells the BBC: “The band’s new album is centred around energy depletion on the planet. I’m really hopeful we can do some work with younger people about this. I’m hugely excited by the prospect.”
He extended the offer after meeting the three-piece in May when they carried the Olympic torch through Teignbridge. Their new track Survival, from upcoming album The 2nd Law, has been named the official song of the event.
The band have not commented on Councillor Christophers’ invitation but he says: “We would be delighted to see them in the offices at Teignbridge, sitting at my desk.”
In 2009 Muse arranged two hometown gigs to thank locals for their support. Bassist Chris Wolstenholme said: “It’s something we wanted to do for a long time. It’s not a money-making exercise – we want to give something back to the community.”
