Soundgarden to tour without Cameron

mattCameronSoundgarden drummer Matt Cameron has announced he won’t take part in the band’s 2014 tour dates.

It’s his solution to a balancing act involving his duties with Pearl Jam and personal commitments.

He says in a statement: “I will be taking 2014 off from Soundgarden touring due to prior commitments promoting Lightning Bolt with my brothers in Pearl Jam, and the desire to have more time at home with my family.

“I am trying to balance the many twists and turns of my awesome music career. This is temporary. I am still an active member of Soundgarden.”

The drummer adds that he’s involved in discussions over who will replace him next year alongside Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd, and finishes: “Thank you all for listening and the years of support!”

Cameron was instrumental in bringing Soundgarden back together for 2012 reunion album King Animal after inviting his bandmates to try out songs he’d written for Pearl Jam but felt wouldn’t fit with that band.

The return of PJ with Lightning Bolt, released earlier this year, had led to speculation the bands might tour together so Cameron could continue appearing with both – but the drummer shot down the rumours, saying: “After I play two hours my day is done.”
