Slipknot last night blacked out their website and Facebook and Instagram presence as they turned their focus on recording the first album since the band’s career was thrown off course.
They were first rocked by the tragic death of bassist and co-founded Paul Gray in 2010 following an accidental overdose. Then last year, just as they moved towards recovery, they announced they’d dismissed co-founding drummer Joey Jordison.
But the band’s fans’ long wait will soon be over as frontman Corey Taylor revealed 17 songs had been prepared for what will be their sixth album, to be release at an unknown date later this year.
Taylor told Kerrang: “I’ve written lyrics for everything we have right now, and it’s feeling pretty good.
“It feels like the story of the band so far, which is a totally different take on what I’ve been used to writing with Slipknot. But I think, because of everything we’ve been through, it’s time to tell that story.”
Taylor – who also fronts Stone Sour – compares the new material to their second and third albums Iowa and Volume 3, adding: “Fans are going to be very, very excited when they hear this stuff. It’s going to be everything you want in a Slipknot album, and everything you wouldn’t expect.”
It’s not known whether any new members are taking part in the sessions, which are due to start in the next few days.
