VOLBEAT honoured in ‘Rock/Alternative International’ category at Germany’s Echo Music Award

volbeatVOLBEAT were honoured in the ‘Rock/Alternative International’ category at this year’s Echo Music Awards – Germany’s equivalent of the US Grammys; VB were nominated for and won the award in a category that also included the likes of Black Sabbath, Placebo & 30 Seconds To Mars.

In their acceptance speech at the ceremony in Berlin, frontman Michael Poulsen stressed the importance of the Volbeat fans (“Without the fans there would be no award, but without the award there would still be the fans!”), and also put out a shout to Ukranian heavyweight Vladimir Klitschko; Poulsen is a huge boxing fan, and ‘A Warrior’s Call’ from the Danish band’s 2010 album, ‘Beyond Hell / Above Heaven’, was dedicated to Danish boxer Mikkel Kessler, who also added vocals to the track.

VOLBEAT’s latest album, ‘Outlaw Gentlemen & Shady Ladies’ – out now via Spinefarm Records in the UK and nominated for a US Revolver Golden Gods Award in ‘Album Of The Year Category’ – saw the band topping charts all across Europe, and going Top 10 in Canada and the US, where they  have been named in Billboard magazine as the #1 Active Rock Artist of last year.

On the touring side, too, Volbeat had a remarkable 2013, setting out on a mammoth world tour that included both sold-out arenas and festival outings, one of the latter being an epic set at Download; there was also a UK headline run, culminating in sold-out shows plus an emotional night at the Brixton Academy in London.

On returning to the UK and the hallowed ground of Donington Park for Download 2014, Pouslen adds: “We had an absolutely fantastic UK tour in October last year, with some of the most passionate crowds ever. Now we can’t wait to get back to the UK to tear up the Download Festival!”

Download 2014 is scheduled for June 13th -15th at Donington Park, with Volbeat taking to the main-stage on the 15th.

Volbeat’s unique sound has been championed by the likes of Lemmy, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Scott Ian, Social Distortion & Hank Williams III, amongst others.
